Comments on the Jet Pack Trooper - The Clone Wars (Animation)
Up for review today is Kotobukiya's ArtFx figure of the Jet Pack Trooper, one of the many random and unnamed background Jango Fett based Clone Troopers from the CGI show Star Wars: The Clone Wars. For those that don't know, the ArtFX series is a line of highly sculpted, prepainted vinyl figures that stand at about 6" in size and require little assembly. The Jet Pack Trooper, a bonus build-a-figure (from the Captain Rex, Commander Cody and Commander Gree figure series), is no exception to this sculpt wise. He is assembled from six pieces total. Unlike the main set of figures though, he lacks any accessories or alternate heads. The Jet Pack Trooper is also posed in a rather generic looking position compared to the figures he is included with Also like Cody and Rex, the blaster is sculpted directly in his hands which slightly limits his poses. I should also mention that I once again appreciate the inclusion of the magnetic feet which makes the figure less likely to tip over accidentally, though he has no display base of his own like the main set of figures. This isn't a big issue however as each main figure comes with two display bases for themselves that can be shared with the Jet Pack Trooper. The biggest disappointment with this figure would have to be the paint detail. Now don't get me wrong. Every intricate detail of the Jet Pack Trooper, like the main figures, is not missed. Unfortunately the Jet Pack Trooper, armor wise, is kind of like a generic Stormtrooper from the original Star Wars Trilogy movies. There just isn't exactly anything exciting marking wise on him to paint. Add to it that this particular Jet Pack Trooper appears to be a new addition to the Clone ranks, there also simply isn't any weather effect type painting done on the armor to make the figure interesting, which is a shame as this figure could have been better for it. As is the only thing that makes the Jet Pack Trooper stand out is, well, the jet pack. Packaging wise there isn't really anything to mention. Being a build-a-figure the Jet pack Trooper doesn't really have a package in of itself. The Jet Pack Trooper pieces comes in the same window display packages as Captain Rex, Commander Cody and Commander Gree, but aside from the picture on the back of the packaging the Jet Pack Trooper pieces are hardly the main focus of each window display package. The Jet Pack Trooper is a nicely sculpted and paint detailed piece to receive as a bonus vinyl figure if you already plan on purchasing all three main figures or if you commonly get a "got to catch them all" mentality type thrill from trying to complete build-a-figures, but as a figure it definitely isn't worth the purchase price in of itself.
